ReCast
ReCast transforms scrap aluminium into a minimalist collection of door accessories - handle, knocker, doorstop, hook - via traditional sand casting. Using only 5 % of primary energy, it avoids bauxite mining’s devastation and 95 % of emissions. Sprues become celebrated features, foregrounding process-led craft that proves circular design can marry durability, utility and environmental responsibility together.

During the development stages of the project, several illustrations of each design were made to better understand the shape, form and tactile nature of each product. The result is a collection of playful drawings that feature the organic sprues formed during the sand casting process.
